Civil society organisations under the umbrella of the Civil Society Groups for Good Governance (CSGGG) have commended Senator Agom Jarigbe Jarigbe for what they described as strong legislative performance and impactful constituency projects in Cross River North, while cautioning against the spread of unverified allegations and political smears.
The coalition, which comprises more than 180 organisations focused on transparency, accountability and good governance, said its position followed an independent assessment of the senator’s activities in the 10th National Assembly and across his constituency.

Groups pass vote of confidence on senator
In a statement signed by its President, Comrade Ogakwu Dominic, CSGGG said the assessment resulted in a vote of confidence in Senator Jarigbe, noting that his interventions had delivered “measurable and widespread benefits” to communities in the senatorial district.
“Our independent assessment confirms tangible results in the senator’s legislative and constituency work,” Dominic said. “While oversight is essential to democratic governance, it must be balanced, fair and evidence-based.”
The group urged citizens and political actors to exercise restraint and responsibility in public discourse, particularly in relation to allegations circulating on social media.
Allegations described as politically motivated
CSGGG addressed recent online reports alleging that contracts for motorcycles, computing equipment, emergency rice supplies and solar-powered streetlights in parts of Cross River North were awarded to a company linked to the senator and his family.
While critics raised concerns about possible conflicts of interest and compliance with procurement rules, the coalition said Senator Jarigbe had dismissed the claims as politically motivated and maintained that accountability should be measured by the proper execution and delivery of projects.
“The senator has consistently emphasised that the welfare of constituents and the quality of project delivery should be the primary yardstick for public accountability,” the statement noted.

Education and infrastructure record highlighted
According to the assessment, Senator Jarigbe has facilitated the construction, renovation and furnishing of classrooms, staff rooms and modern toilet facilities in several primary and secondary schools across Ogoja, Yala, Bekwarra, Obudu and Obanliku local government areas.
The groups said these interventions had significantly improved learning environments and access to basic education for thousands of pupils and students.
On infrastructure, the coalition cited the completion and rehabilitation of major roads linking rural and semi-urban communities, as well as ongoing work on strategic routes including Ibil–Abakpa, Busangfong and Yahe–Ukelle. Bridges constructed at Ukpagada in Ogoja and Amukwong in Obudu were also credited with easing movement and boosting local trade.
Water, electrification and healthcare interventions noted
CSGGG further highlighted the installation of more than 180 solar-powered and motorised boreholes across the district, providing access to safe drinking water for numerous communities.
Electrification projects, including the installation of 500KVA transformers and solar-powered streetlights in wards, markets and major roads, were said to have improved security and transformed public spaces.
In healthcare, the coalition pointed to medical outreach programmes, the distribution of equipment to ten primary healthcare centres and the enrolment of 1,000 constituents into the JariCare Health Insurance Scheme as key interventions that expanded access to essential services.
Empowerment programmes praised
The assessment also noted support for agriculture through the provision of tractors, fertilisers and hand tillers, alongside youth training programmes in aquaculture and data management aimed at improving employability.
Human capital and empowerment initiatives, according to the groups, included fully funded scholarships for students, vocational training, the distribution of laptops to lecturers and students, motorcycles and tricycles for youths and traditional rulers, cash grants for businesswomen and food and financial assistance to vulnerable households.
Recreational projects such as an ultra-modern mini stadium in Ogoja and community recreation centres were also cited as contributing to youth engagement and social cohesion.
Call for evidence-based public debate
CSGGG concluded by urging the public to focus on verified facts and development outcomes rather than unsubstantiated claims.
“Responsible public discourse is critical to strengthening democracy,” Dominic said. “Criticism must be grounded in facts, not conjecture or campaigns of calumny.”
The coalition said Senator Jarigbe’s record reflected legislative diligence and a sustained commitment to equitable development across Cross River North, spanning education, infrastructure, water supply, electrification, healthcare, agriculture and community empowerment.
