FCT, Abuja - The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led federal government said the death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, is regrettable.

Legit.ng reports that 29-year-old news anchor was killed at her residence in Katampe area of Abuja on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave assurances for a swift investigation to unravel the circumstances leading to the death of the late news anchor.

As reported by Vanguard, Idris gave the assurance in a letter of condolence he signed and addressed to the Chairman of the Arise News channel, Nduka Obaigbena.

In a similar manner, former vice President Atiku Abubakar expressed his deepest condolences to the family of Ms Somtochukwu who was killed in an armed robbery attack in Abuja.

Atiku prayed that Somtochukwu’s family, friends and colleagues be comforted by the tragic loss.

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) said the Arise News anchor’s death highlights the need to prioritise the safety and security of Nigerians.

Obi said no Nigerian should go to bed fearful of what the night may bring.

In a post he shared via his X handle @PeterObi, he wrote:

“This heartbreaking incident once again highlights the urgent need for us as a country to prioritise the safety and security of every citizen. No Nigerian should go to bed fearful of what the night may bring, or lose their life in such senseless ways.”

The 29-year-old died following a robbery incident at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja, and one of her tweets before her demise has resurfaced online

Mourning the death of Somtochukwu, ARISE News described her as a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with its viewers.

In a previous story, Legit.ng reported that X user narrated how Somtochukwu Maduagwu allegedly died after robbery attack in Abuja.

In a long thread, he claimed that police refused to help, saying they had no fuel to take her to the hospital.

According to him, the Late journalist was reportedly preparing for marriage and her 30th birthday.
