Nollywood actress and filmmaker Eniola Ajao has sparked reactions online after she opened up about the properties she had to put up for sale and the loan she took to fund a cinema movie.

She exposed the high financial risks and personal costs involved in producing theatrical films in the movie industry.

Speaking on "Spill Thells" podcast, Eniola recounted how she sold her cars and land while borrowing the sum of N8 million from her senior colleague actor Odunlade Adekola to complete a cinema movie.

" I sold my cars, I had two cars, I sold my land to make a cinema movie, Odunlade Adekola even borrowed me 8million naira to complete the project," she said.

She also mentioned low payouts from movie marketers before the era of streaming.

"Where are the marketers today, you make a lot of movies, spend a lot of money, at the end of the day you sell them to marketers and they give you peanut. And some of them will tell you they didn't make anything, whereas they are sending their children abroad," Eniola revealed.

She disclosed that she makes numerous contents to promote her movies because the support from others reduces after one or two social media posts.

The actress also shared her perspective about community cinemas, saying the movie industry needs more of it.

Eniola Ajao has produced two cinema movies: Beast of Two Worlds (Ajakaju) in 2024, which marked her debut as a lead producer, and Owambe Thieves, released in 2025.
