Top 10 richest football club owners in world revealed with Chelsea behind Hoffenheim

- The Dubai political acquired the Premier League club in 2008 with a staggering £210 million

- Austrian billionaire Dietrich Mateschitz who owns German side RB Leipzig is second richest club owner

Very rich entrepreneurs have invested in the game of football and they tend to fall into two main categories - those who want to make themselves even richer through football, or those who are so ludicrously wealthy that they want a pet project to waste some money on.

Billionaires across the world have found soccer a worthy investment opportunity and have dedicated not just their effort, but their cash into the game

According to top outlet Reddit, Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour is the richest club owner in the world.

The Emirati politician who is the deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, minister of presidential affairs and member of the royal family of Abu Dhabi splashed £210 million to buy the club in a much publicised deal in 2008.

Reports have it that he has since accumulated annual losses of £535 million, excluding approximately £200 million on facility upgrades.

RB Leipzig’s owner Dietrich Mateschitz is second on the list. A Forbes report in July 2020 claims Mateschitz's net worth was estimated at $26.9 billion, making him the 40th wealthiest person in the world.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has however dropped down to fifth in top 10 richest football club owners.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that former RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick revealed that Chelsea attempted to hire him on an interim basis before settling for Thomas Tuchel.

The 62-year-old German added that he turned down the offer as he would not love to be committed to a club on a temporary basis.

Tuchel, however, came in as a replacement for Frank Lampard who was relieved of his duties on January 25.

The ex-RB Leipzig's boss was linked with the England top job in 2017 but after the interview, Sam Allardyce became the chosen one.
