Political motive behind campus shooting
Robinson is accused of fatally shooting Kirk at Utah Valley University. The incident happened on Wednesday. According to Patel, the attack was not random. It was planned. It was political.
“His family has collectively told investigators that he subscribed to left-wing ideology,” Patel said on Fox & Friends. He added that Robinson had exchanged texts with another person. In those messages, Robinson allegedly said he had a chance to “take out Charlie Kirk.” He claimed he would do it because he hated what Kirk represented.

DNA found on discarded items
The FBI found DNA on a towel. That towel was wrapped around a firearm. It was left in a wooded area near the university. DNA was also discovered on a screwdriver found on a rooftop.
The gun itself is still being analysed. Experts from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are handling it. The weapon is a Mauser bolt-action rifle. It was found near bullet casings. Some of those casings had messages etched into them. One read: “Hey fascist! Catch!”
FBI director responds to criticism
Patel’s handling of the case has drawn criticism. Some accused him of grandstanding. Others questioned why he announced a suspect was in custody before charges were filed.
He admitted his wording could have been better. But he stood by his decision. “Do I regret putting it out? Absolutely not.”
Tensions with local police addressed
There were rumours of friction between federal and local authorities. Patel dismissed them. He praised local and state police. He called their work “fantastic.”

However, he did express frustration. He said photo evidence was delayed. “The photos were produced,” he said. “They just weren’t produced in a timely fashion that I felt was appropriate.”
Patel said he expedited the process. He wanted the investigation to move faster.
Community shocked by suspect’s profile
Robinson’s background surprised many. Neighbours described him as “squeaky clean.” Family members said he was “considerate.” He had recently become interested in politics.
He is currently being held in Utah County Jail. Formal charges are expected on Tuesday. It is not yet known if he has a lawyer.
The investigation continues. More forensic results are expected soon.
