He yet again reiterated that he is not thinking about the award, but is instead focused on winning team honours, which consequently will bring individual awards.

“Am I getting closer to the Ballon d’Or? As the coach said, if individual trophies come, that’s great. But the most important thing is collective trophies.”

PSG have won five trophies this year and Dembele has been named the best player in three: French Ligue 1, UEFA Champions League and the Super Cup.

He is the odds-on favourite, and the Super Cup does nothing to boost or diminish his chances as it is not under the timeline for consideration, as noted by beIN Sport.

Dembele praises PSG’s season

Dembele, during an interview with UEFA's official website after the win over Tottenham, applauded the team for their efforts in a remarkable season.

"It’s huge. It’s huge to win another European trophy for the club. It’s great,” he said about the UEFA Super Cup victory.

He admitted that the team’s belief grew after the Champions League round of 16, after which they eliminated some of the best teams in Europe, including Arsenal and Liverpool.

“After every game in the Champions League starting from the round of 16 [I've felt we could achieve something special], we eliminated one of the best teams in Europe at that time,” he added.
“As soon as we got through that round against Liverpool, we knew that anything was possible. In 2025, I think we have been the best team in the world.”

The Ballon d'Or ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Théâtre du Chatelet in Paris on September 22, 2025, and Dembele is expected to win.
