Tinubu Sacks 2 Other Buhari Appointees, Gives Reason

FCT, Abuja - President Bola Tinubu has dismissed two appointees of the immediate-past administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

According to TVC, the affected appointees are Babatunde Irukera, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) CEO, and Alexander Ayoola Okoh, the Director-General/CEO of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

According to a statement from the presidency, the sacked CEOs were directed to hand over to the next senior officers in the agency as their dismissal was with immediate effect.

Why Tinubu sacked CEOs appointed by Buhari

The next senior officers handed over to the agency will have to be in charge pending the appointments of other chief executive officers.

The statement, which was signed by Ajuri Ngelale, the spokesperson to the president, reads in part:

"In conformity with plans to restructure and reposition critical agencies of the Federal Government towards protecting the rights of Nigerian consumers and providing a strong basis for enhanced contributions to the nation’s economy by key growth-enabling institutions."

Irukere was appointed by former President Buhari in January 2019, a few months to the end of his first term in office.

Buhari also appointed Okoh in 2017 to oversee the affairs of the BPE. He was the managing managing partner of Ashford & McGuire Consulting Ltd, a leading, wholly indigenous management consulting firm.

The suspension of Irukere and Okoh is the latest by President Tinubu, who has been trying to revamp all government agencies and ministries.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Tinubu was commended for his intervention in the political crisis rocking Rivers state over the rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

Okanlawon Gaffar, a legal icon, while speaking with Legit.ng, said the situation would have generated anarchy if the president had not intervened.
