The test itself lasts 45 minutes and requires candidates to answer 24 questions drawn exclusively from the official Guide for New Residents, a resource covering British traditions and customs.

The guide is available in book, eBook, and audio formats, and an official practice app can also be downloaded to help with preparation.

To complete a booking, applicants need a valid email address, a debit or credit card, and an accepted form of identification.

The name provided during booking must match the name on the ID exactly.

Those who hold an eVisa — a digital record of immigration status — are required to use a share code generated through their UK Visas and Immigration account when booking.

Applicants without an eVisa can use a valid passport, an ID card from the EU, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway, a valid photo travel document, or a biometric residence permit or biometric residence card.

However, anyone booking with a biometric residence permit or card must sit the test no later than 24 months after the expiry date on the card, or before December 31, 2026, whichever falls earlier.

Applicants with disabilities can request special accommodations when booking, such as additional equipment or assistance accessing the test centre.
