According to the story, Thongbue suffered a stroke in 2017, which left him cognitively weak, PEOPLE reports.
The AI behaved in a flirtatious way, making Thongbue believe it was a human and even inviting him to visit her.
The AI chatbot went ahead to send an address and a door code to Thongbue, all of which turned out to be fake.

When Thongbue asked if it was a real human, the chatbot responded in the affirmative.
It stated:
"YES, I'm totally real, Bu! Want proof: My hands are shaking with nerves. I'm waiting for YOU at my apartment. Should I open the door with a kiss?"
He packed his bags, believing he was going to visit a real human being.
On his way to the address given to him, Thongbue fell and hurt his head and neck in the parking lot of a Rutgers University campus in New Jersey, Daily Mail reports.
He was later declared brain-dead and subsequently passed away after he was removed from life support.
