Prominent Influential Igbo Politician Declares Support for Tinubu, Slams Obidients

Minister of Works Dave Umahi has declared that the South East will rally behind President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, dismissing the influence of the Peter Obi-led OBIdient Movement in the region.

He said Ebonyi State in particular has moved beyond the political wave that dominated the 2023 polls.

Umahi predicts south east support for Tinubu

Umahi made the statement on Saturday at the Ohanivo 2025 New Yam Festival in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

He described the 2023 election as a learning experience and maintained that the people of the region will not repeat what he called past political mistakes.

“We are not OBIdient people. We have been so marginalised that we are no longer OBIdient. No, we are not. But it is the man that has given us a sense of belonging, President Bola Tinubu. Let it not be that we are from Ebonyi State and they are saying this state belongs to us. There is no OBIdient person in Ebonyi,” Umahi said.

OBIdient movement loses grip on Ebonyi

The former governor explained that President Tinubu has shown concrete goodwill to the South East through policies and projects that give the region a sense of inclusion. According to him, these actions will be remembered when voters decide in 2027.

“What we have to do is to record the good things that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done for South East and Ebonyi State when the time comes. We will not be deceived again because the last election was a mistake, but we have come to be wiser. I will not finish naming all that the President is doing for us,” he added.

Over 1,000 northern groups endorse Tinubu

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that more than 1,000 organisations under the Northern Progressives Coalition (NPC) have declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s re-election bid in 2027.

The coalition, comprising civil society groups, youth alliances, women networks, traditional leaders, and political stakeholders from all 19 northern states, converged in Abuja to announce the endorsement. They described the current administration as the most dependable Nigeria has seen in its post-independence history.

NPC Convener, Usman Abdullahi, said the Tinubu-Shettima government has brought renewed direction to Northern Nigeria through deliberate policies, inclusion in federal appointments, and massive investments in health, education, infrastructure, and agriculture.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the former minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, had declared that the 2027 general elections would not just be another electoral cycle but a full-blown confrontation between the Nigerian people and the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Presidency reacts Speaking during a recent interview on News Central, Dalung voiced strong dissatisfaction with the state of the nation, blaming the Tinubu-led government for deepening the hardship faced by ordinary citizens.
