Coronavirus: Tinubu raises alarm, says Nigerian health system can’t tackle large scale of COVID-19

- APC leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has advised the federal government to intensify efforts in containing coronavirus

- The former Lagos governor said that the Nigerian health system can’t tackle large scale coronavirus

- Tinubu, however, called for calm among Nigerians as the government finds a lasting solution to the problem

The national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed has raised the alarm that Nigeria’s health care system cannot withstand a coronavirus pandemic on the scale of America and Europe.

Legit.ng reports that he, therefore, called on the government and the citizens to do everything to curb the spread of the virus.

Tinubu said this in a statement he wrote in commemoration of his 68th birthday.

The former governor of Lagos said: “The public health care systems of developed nations have been overwhelmed by this virus. They are running out of equipment and healthy doctors.

“Our public health care system is much smaller and less equipped than those in Europe and North America. We cannot afford to put undue pressure on our system because it cannot bear the great weight of a pandemic.

“Thus, it is incumbent on us to thoroughly implement and obey social safety and distancing techniques so that we halt the spread of the disease and keep hospitalization to the barest possible minimum.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that some angry youths in Kusada town in Katsina state burnt down a police station, the police command spokesman, SP Gambo Isah disclosed.

It was reported that Isah said some disgruntled youths, under the leadership of one Malam Hassan, conducted Friday prayer in one of the Juma’at mosques in Kusada, in defiance of the directives of the government which suspended large gatherings, Friday congregational prayer and Church services.

As a result of this, he was arrested for questioning at area commander’s office, Malumfashi, which did not go down well with some of his followers.

In a related report, Tinubu has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to print more Naira notes to help the government navigate through the disaster of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tinubu, who insisted that it is important to keep the Naira flowing even though the coronavirus pandemic has sharply reduced dollar inflow said it is the right of Nigeria to issue currency.

To buttress his points, he referenced the recent $2.2 trillion package designed to save its economy passed by U.S Congress and signed by President Donald Trump.

Tinubu disclosed in his 68th birthday message.
