NLC congratulates Buhari, asks Atiku, other candidates to accept result in good faith

- The labour also congratulated Atiku Abubakar and other presidential candidates for participating in the election

- In a statement by NLC, Atiku and the other candidates were urged to accept the result in good faith

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in the Saturday, February 23 presidential election and asked Atiku Abubakar and other candidates to accept defeat in good faith.

The labour congratulated the president in a statement on Wednesday, February 27, by its president, Ayuba Wabba, Channels reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the union also congratulated other candidates for their participation and urged them to adhere to the peace accord they signed before the election.

It said: “The Nigeria Labour Congress wishes to congratulate Muhammadu Buhari on his re-election as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, being the second person to get re-elected since the return to civilian rule twenty years ago.

“We also wish to congratulate other candidates for their participation and urge them to accept the outcome of the election, and adherence to the peace accord they had signed before the election.

“Mr President won in 2015 on his campaign promise to fight corruption, restore security and grow the economy. From his re-election, this may have boded well with the greater majority of the people who voted for him."

The NLC added: “Finally, our most profound commendation goes to the millions of Nigerians who defied all odds to perform their civic duty.

“Similarly, our deep condolences go to the families of those who lost their lives. We demand that the culprits be brought to book in accordance with our laws.”

Legit.ng previously reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented the certificate of return to President Muhammadu Buhari and his running mate, Yemi Osinbajo, following the victory of the APC in the February 23 presidential election.

Speaking before jubilant supporters during the certificate presentation at the International Conference Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, February 27, the president thanked Nigerians for their unwavering support.

Buhari promised to use his second term in taking Nigerians to the next level of governance. He also condoled with the families of those who lost their lives as a result of violent incidences in parts of the country during the elections.
