Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has come under scrutiny in Turkey following his first appearance for Galatasaray this season.
After the Turkish giants’ comfortable 3-0 victory over Karagumruk in the Super Lig, veteran commentator Erman Toroglu of Ekol TV publicly criticised Osimhen’s approach to the game.

Toroglu compared Osimhen to Argentine star Mauro Icardi, who also came off the bench during the match.
While Icardi found the back of the net, Osimhen failed to score, prompting Toroglu to suggest that the Nigerian international still has areas he must improve, Daily Post reports.
“Icardi is more professional than Osimhen,” Toroglu said, highlighting a perceived gap in mentality between the two forwards.

Criticism of Osimhen’s temperament
One of the key weaknesses identified by Turkish media was Osimhen’s tendency to lose his temper when challenged by defenders.

According to Turkish site Habersarikirmizi, Toroglu pointed out that Osimhen must learn to remain calm under pressure if he is to succeed in Turkey.
“Osimhen gets angry easily with the opponent. Don’t do it. If they see you like that, they will play on you,” Toroglu warned, stressing that defenders will deliberately target Osimhen if he continues to show frustration.
The football pundit also emphasised the importance of building a strong relationship with opposing defences.
“Get along well with the defence, because the defence won’t have mercy on you,” he added.
This criticism comes at a crucial time for Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray permanently on a record transfer from Napoli this summer after an impressive loan spell.
With a strong reputation as one of Europe’s most prolific strikers, the Nigerian forward faces pressure to replicate his goal-scoring form in Turkey, where he netted 37 goals last season.

Opportunity for redemption against Kayserispor
Despite the early criticism, Galatasaray fans remain hopeful that Osimhen will prove his worth in due time.
The forward is still regaining match sharpness after joining the squad late in pre-season due to the transfer tussle between Galatasaray and Napoli.
Galatasaray’s next match against Kayserispor provides Osimhen with a fresh opportunity to silence critics and showcase his abilities.
A strong performance could help shift the narrative in his favour and ease comparisons with Icardi, who remains a fan favourite.
For now, the message from the Turkish media is clear: Osimhen must manage his emotions better, stay composed under pressure, and sharpen his finishing if he wants to thrive in Istanbul.
