Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has responded to whether she could marry a Nigerian man during a trip to Lagos after WAFCON 2025.
Plumptre featured in all matches as Nigeria conquered women's football in Africa for a record-extending 10th time, beating hosts Morocco in the final.

She returned to Nigeria with the team after their victory, during which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu conferred national honours on the team and gave them cash gifts.
Plumptre speaks about marrying a Nigerian man
Plumptre spent time in Nigeria after the WAFCON triumph, during which she visited different places with her father, Tim Plumptre, including media houses.

The Al-Ittihad defender, during a session on Lagos Talks Sports Zone, was asked about her relationship status and whether she can marry a Nigerian man.
“I get asked questions like this all the time,” she said. “No, I'm 27, and I've not even… that's not even anything in my mind right now. I mean, I don't even have any time.”
“I mean, do you know what? To hear this question when I'm sat next to my dad is a kind of funny situation,” she added.

Plumptre's father speaks about her connection to Nigeria
Plumptre was eligible to represent Nigeria through her paternal grandfather, Harry Dotun Plumptre, who lived in Lagos, and her father, Tim, has opened up about connecting her to her Nigerian roots.
“It was absolutely vital for me to consciously raise Ashleigh with an understanding of her heritage. I took her to spend time with her grandfather, and as many of her extended Nigerian family as possible,” he told CAF Online.

“This exposure was essential, as she wouldn’t encounter many Nigerians in her day-to-day life. I wanted to ensure that she knew about Nigeria and her Nigerian family, and she has always been proud to embrace this aspect of her identity.

The London-born attacker, who recently joined Italian side AS Roma women, shared photos of herself and her Moroccan boyfriend in Madrid, Spain.
