  • Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar's camp made the allegation against the presidency in a statement on Thursday, September 25
  • The statement, which was signed by Atiku's media aide, debunked the report that the former vice president promised to dominate his cabinet with Yoruba people

The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that the President Bola Tinubu-led government was employing the services of high-level propaganda and disinformation agents against opposition leaders ahead of the next cycle of elections.

Paul Ibe, the media adviser to the former president, raised the allegation in a statement on Thursday, September 25. He alleged that the federal government was sponsoring one "faceless mercenary" known as Kola Johnson, who has been making false press releases in Atiku's name.

Ibe maintained that Kola Johnson is a self-styled media consultant and his recent activities of releasing fake press statements in the name of Atiku. He added that their findings indicated that the presidency was the one sponsoring Kola Johnson.

The former vice president's team maintained that the recent claim by Kola Johnson that Atiku's administration would be dominated by an ethnic group is totally false. He stressed that "the false claim attributed to this individual that an Atiku administration would be dominated by a single ethnic group" was offensive.

Atiku promises top positions for Yoruba

On Wednesday, a report emerged where Johnson claimed that Atiku had stated that the South-West, a region dominated by the Yoruba, would be central to his policymaking if he were elected president in 2027.

The former vice president was said to have made the claim while dismissing the fear that his presidency “might lead to Hausa/Fulani domination over Yoruba or other ethnic groups.”

He vowed that the interest of the Yoruba will “occupy a topmost place” in his administration’s policies. The report indicated that Atiku made this known in a statement issued by his media consultant, Kola Johnson, on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in Abuja.

Atiku reportedly cited his first marriage to Titi, an Ijesha-born Yoruba woman from Osun state, in the 1970s, as proof of his deep-rooted connection to the South-West.

Atiku, Tinubu battle for Buhari's supporters

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu and the former vice president Atiku Abubakar were making moves to inherit the political dynasty of the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari.

This was due to the recent moves by the two political gladiators, which threw up a dramatic shift ahead of the 2027 presidential race.

The question was not about who will inherit Buhari's legacy but how deep the loyalty may shift and affect the 2027 presidential election.
