BREAKING: PDP appoints new BoT chairman, gives him additional responsibility

  • The People's Democratic Party has appointed Adolphus Wabara as the acting Chairman, Board of Trustees
  • This follows the resignation of the former chairman, Walid Jibrin, in Abuja, the federal capital territory
  • With this, Wabara would now be appointed to the presidential campaign council of the opposition PDP

In another twist in the saga trailing the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adolphus Wabara, has been named acting Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Party. This follows the resignation of Walid Jibrin.

Also, the former Senate president was named the Political Adviser of the national chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, Punch Newspaper reports.

Wabara, who was before now, the Secretary of the PDP BoT, would be appointed to the presidential campaign council of the PDP.

A source said the decision was taken at the ongoing BoT meeting taking place in Abuja.

The source was quoted to have said:

“The Sokoto state Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, will also resign shortly as the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum."

Finally, PDP BoT chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, resigns

Recall that Legit.ng reported that on Thursday, September 8, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin finally resigned from his position, The Nigerian Tribune reported.

Jibrin who disclosed this at the 97th PDP BoT meeting on Thursday in Abuja said his decision was made to ensure the party’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar emerged victorious in the 2023 elections. Walid had said that he was ready to sacrifice his position if such will bring peace to the party.

Walid, who has six months to the expiration of his tenure, had said that the North cannot occupy all the key positions in the party.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the PDP national chairman, Ayu, presided over the party’s national caucus meeting on Wednesday night, September 7, in Abuja.

The development was an indication that the dark cloud hanging over his job might have been lifted, at least for now.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, PDP spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, said the party will announce members of the presidential campaign council on Thursday, September 8.
