Breaking: Nigeria Trashes South Africa, Advances to the Finals of AFCON

  • The match between Nigeria and South Africa has ended in favour of the Super Eagles after a tension-soaked penalties
  • Nigeria had gained the lead after a penalty was awarded over a foul against Victor Osimhen but Bafana Bafana quickly equalised also through a penalty
  • Kelechi Iheanacho, who played his first game today in Cote d'Ivoire, had the last shoot during the penalties and sent Nigeria to the finals

Nigeria has qualified for the finals of the ongoing CAF African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Nigeria trashed South Africa 1-1 (4-2) on penalties to head to the finals of the tournament taking place in Cote d'Ivoire.

The game ended 1-1 after 120 minutes of play, and both teams headed into penalties.

Nigerians on social media have praised Stanley Nwabali because of his spectacular saves during the tension-soaked penalty shootout.

William Troost-Ekong's tattoo goes viral

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Super Eagle's captain, William Troost-Ekong, has a tattoo of Fela Kuti's face, and this was seen during the team's clash with Ivory Coast.

In a photo shared on X, Ekong was positioning the ball for the penalty kick when a photographer captured the tattoo.

Social media users who have seen the viral photo said Ekong is a fan of the late Afrobeats singer Fela Kuti.
