Nigeria Police Apprehend Beninese Fugitive Sunday Kotin in Ogun State

The Nigeria Police Force National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol has successfully arrested and repatriated Sunday Kotin, a notorious fugitive from Benin Republic, to authorities in Cotonou.

The operation, which underscores Nigeria’s commitment to international law enforcement collaboration, was carried out following a formal request from Interpol Benin Republic.

Kotin, who had reportedly fled into Nigeria to evade justice, was wanted in connection with a string of violent and organised crimes.

These included inter-border armed banditry, smuggling of firearms and ammunition, cattle rustling, and trafficking in illicit drugs.

Investigations revealed that seven members of his criminal syndicate are currently standing trial in Benin Republic, while Kotin had remained at large until his recent capture.

Nigeria police demonstrate tactical precision

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the NPF NCB executed a discreet and strategic operation in Idi Iroko Town, located in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The suspect was apprehended without incident and subsequently interrogated regarding his involvement in cross-border criminal activities. He was later handed over to officials of NCB Cotonou, marking a successful conclusion to the international manhunt.

IGP Egbetokun reaffirms Nigeria’s stance against transnational crime

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, commended the officers whose “doggedness and professionalism made this feat possible.”

He reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering dedication to protecting the nation’s sovereignty and upholding the rule of law.

The IGP stated emphatically that “Nigeria will never serve as a safe haven for fugitives or purveyors of crime, no matter how highly placed or deeply networked.”

In his statement, the IGP assured both the Nigerian public and the international community of the Force’s “relentless pursuit of criminals, its steadfast partnership with global law enforcement agencies, and its firm obligation to ensuring peace, security, and justice for all.”

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is the principal law enforcement agency in Nigeria, tasked with maintaining public order, enforcing laws, and safeguarding lives and property across the country.

Legit.ng earlier reported that a businesswoman in Cross River, Victoria Mba, has alleged that her 22-year-old son, Moses Mba, was shot by police officers at the Cross River governor's former residence. She called for justice over the death of her son.

The bereaved mother also dismissed the attempt to label her son as someone who is mentally ill and subsequently demanded an autopsy on Moses' death.
