Buhari wants Senate to Confirm Prof. Omotayo as NIPSS DG

Abuja- The Senate has received a formal request from President Muhammadu Buhari to confirm Professor Ayo C. Omotayo as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies.

The request was contained in a letter seen by Legit.ng and read on Tuesday, November 9, during plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, moments after the chamber resumed plenary from its eighteen working days recess.

Recall that the Senate had adjourned the plenary on October 13, 2020, to enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government to defend their respective budget estimates for the year 2022 before the relevant committees of the National Assembly.

President Buhari in the letter sought the confirmation of Professor Ayo Omotayo as Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in accordance with Section 5(2) of the NIPSS Act 2004.

The letter was titled: Request for confirmation of the appointment of Prof. Ayo C. Omotayo Ph.D. as Director-General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

It reads:

“In accordance with the provision of Section 5 subsection 2 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies Act 2004, I write to present for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Prof. Ayo C. Omotayo as Director-General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).
“The nominee’s CV is attached herewith.
“It is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee in the usual expeditious manner.”

Lawmakers will insist Nigerian professionals are involved in projects, says Senate President

The president of the Nigerian Senate, Ahmad Lawan, on Wednesday, October 20, announced that the National Assembly will insist on the involvement of professionals in the design and execution of projects across the country.

Lawan disclosed this at the 2021 Architecture Annual Award and Fellowship Investiture of the Nigerian Institute of Architects which took place in Abuja.

At the event, the Senate president was awarded the Distinguished Service Award alongside the governor of Taraba state, Darius Ishaku.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Ahmad Lawan, president of the Senate, has advised President Buhari to reduce the external borrowings being incurred to fund the country’s annual budgets.

The principal lawmaker advised the president to, instead, focus on blocking financial leakages and avoiding wastage in all tiers of government.

Legit.ng gathered that Lawan said this on Monday, August 23, in Abuja, after a closed-door meeting with President Buhari at the State House.
