Three decades after Tupac Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas, his family finally received the verdict they had long waited for, and they wasted no time letting the world know how they felt.
On August 31, 2026, a jury found Duane "Keffe D" Davis guilty of murdering the iconic rapper, deliberating for less than three hours before reaching their decision.

Davis was convicted of murder with the use of a deadly weapon and with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang.
The 63-year-old stood beside his lawyer as the verdict was read aloud, then sat quietly with his hands clasped on the table.
Clark County District Court Judge Carli Kierny set his sentencing for October 13, with a possible maximum sentence of life in prison.
What prosecutors said about 2Pac's murder case
Prosecutors acknowledged that Davis did not personally fire the weapon that killed Shakur during the drive-by shooting near the Las Vegas Strip on September 7, 1996.
Instead, they alleged the gunman was either Davis' nephew, Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson, or another individual in the backseat of the vehicle.
Authorities described Davis, a self-admitted longtime leader of a Los Angeles street gang, as the "shot caller" who handed the gunman the weapon used in the killing.

Shakur family releases emotional statement
The day after the verdict, on September 1, 2026, the Shakur family issued a formal statement through the Instagram page of Dr Mutulu Shakur.
The letter, dated 31 August 2026, opened by paying tribute to the rapper's late mother.
"Above all, we honor Afeni Shakur — a mother whose strength and unshakable belief in her son's truth carried this fight long before any of us knew where it would lead," the family wrote.
The statement continued
"The family of Tupac Amaru Shakur is elated and relieved by today's verdict. We would like to thank the jury for thoughtfully fulfilling their duty and carefully listening to all the evidence."
The family also extended gratitude to fans, friends, marshals, and advocates who supported them throughout the lengthy legal process, describing their presence as something they would "forever" be thankful for.
Ending the letter on a forward-looking note, the family wrote:
"While this verdict is decades in the making, this is not the end of the story. Tupac's legacy and impact on the world lives on and we will continue to do everything we can to keep his spirit alive. Asé, Asé, Asé'o!"
Accompanying the statement, the caption on the post read:
"Thank you to everyone for their love and support now and through the years. The story is not over, and maybe the full truth will never be exposed. But those who know, know. Makaveli the Don forever. Pac forever. The Shakur legacy lives on. Straight ahead. ✊🏿"

Judge orders American singer D4vd trial
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a California judge ordered American singer D4vd to stand trial for the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez after prosecutors presented disturbing evidence during a five-day hearing.
The court heard that D4vd allegedly lured Hernandez to his home, killed her, and attempted to dispose of her remains using items purchased online.
Prosecutors also revealed text messages, pregnancy details, and family consent records, while the defence argued Hernandez had mental health struggles and violent tendencies.
