Is Flavour the only child of his parents? All you wanted to know about top Nigerian singer

Since the release of his debut album N’abania in 2005, Nigerian singer Chinedu Izuchukwu Okoli, popularly known as Flavour N’abania, and his journey to fame have been nothing but remarkable.

In just over a decade of his music career, Flavour has released five solid albums with multiple awards to his name.

How did it all start for Flavour?

As the first son of his father, a lot of responsibilities rested on the shoulder of the 33-year-old Nigerian artiste, but music has always been his passion.

This is perhaps why he is one of the few artistes to have studied music on scholarship, all thanks to the pastor of his church and Chris I Ordor, the CEO of SoundCity Communications.

Flavour began his music career at the young age of 13 after he ran away from home due to his parents' disapproval of a career in music.

He started playing the drums for his church choir in Enugu. The resident pastor at his church introduced him to a friend, Chris I Ordor, the CEO of SoundCity Communications, who had just started a musical company aimed at training young musicians.

In 1996, Flavour was invited to join the company on an educational scholarship to study music.

At the age of 19, Flavour emerged unto Nigeria’s musical scene as a drummer and pianist for a local Enugu band. He then moved on to grooming his singing talent as he regularly performed at local bars. Flavour is presently one of Nigeria's biggest stars.

Background and family

Flavour was born on November 23, 1983, in Enugu state, but he is from Umunze, Orumba South local government area, Anambra state.

He is the first son of his father, Elder Benjamin Onyemaechi Okoli, and has three sisters with a younger brother, DJ Derekz, real name Okoli Chidera Emmanuel.

Not many know that Flavour has a younger brother in DJ Derekz.

Infact, only a few are aware that the 'Ada Ada' crooner and his brother are on the list of siblings in the music industry.

Flavour and DJ Derekz join the likes of Sound Sultan & Baba Dee, D’banj & K-Switch, Don Jazzy & D’Prince, Tekno and Spotless who are brothers in the music industry.

Flavour is also a father of two daughters from two ex-beauty queens, Sandra Okagbue and Anna Banner.

Career and life

Flavour has five albums to his name.

1. N'abania

He released his debut album N’abania through Obaino Music in 2005. However, the album was limited to the south-eastern region of the country, particularly in Enugu state, as it struggled to break into other parts.

2. Uplifted

Five years after N'abania, Flavour dropped his second album Uplifted. The album broke national barriers with top singles like Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix) and Oyi Remix, featuring Tiwa Savage.

3. Blessed

His third studio album 'Blessed' was released on October 18, 2012, through 2nite Entertainment.

4. Thankful

Flavour followed the success of Blessed with another great body of work with the release of his fourth album Thankful. It was released in December 2014. This is still his biggest album ever.

5. Ijele the Traveller

His fifth album Ijele the Traveller dropped on June 27, 2017. It is gradually gaining momentum.

Giving hope to the hopeless

In March 2017, Flavour met a blind boy in Liberia in an orphanage home, during his West African tour.

The young boy named Semah G. Weifur had a dream to meet his idol, Flavour, but he got something even bigger, as he performed in the presence of his idol, got featured in Most High, a track off Flavour's Ijele the Traveller album and also featured in the video.

Flavour who was very touched by the Semah's determination to achieve his dream of performing with him, flew the young boy to Nigeria a few months back for the recording and video shoot of Most High.

Who says dreams don't come true?

Known for singing in his native language Igbo and English language, Flavour is unarguably the king of highlife, with well over a dozen of hits to his name.
