As a result, fresh political debate and questions about Governor Sani’s political strength have been raised in Kaduna state.

The latest resignation by Professor Muhammad Sani Bello, popularly known as Mainan Zazzau, on July 29, 2025, signals potential fractures in the political camp at a critical time ahead of the next governorship contest.
Bello is not the only high-profile figure to leave the administration.
Political observers suggest that Bello felt sidelined despite his central role in securing Sani's electoral victory.
Other high-profile figures to left Governor Sani’s dministration include Benjamin Jock, Senior Special Assistant on Infrastructure; Dr Shehu Makarfi, Senior Counsellor on Political Affairs; Barrister Chris Umar SAN, Deputy Chief of Staff (Legal and Legislative Matters); Hassan Rilwan, former Adviser on Student Affairs; and Umar Hassan Waziri, Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration).
As reported by Daily Trust, Bello served as the Director-General of Uba Sani’s 2023 campaign.
The departures have had ripple effects within the APC, including mass resignations in Kaduna North Local Government.
However, the APC retained key seats in several constituencies during the Saturday, August 16, 2025 by-elections despite fears that elite resignations might weaken the party’s hold.
Political commentators argue that by-election results demonstrate that Sani’s political base remains intact even without El-Rufai and the associates.
Analysts noted that the results reflect Governor Sani’s ability to mobilise grassroots structures and maintain voter loyalty.
According to observers, the APC by-election victories underscore a critical distinction that defections at the elite level may generate headlines but strong local networks and party machinery often determine.

Result of Kaduna bye-elections emerges
Recall that the All Progressives Congress (APC swept all three bye-elections held in Kaduna State, marking a historic shift in long-standing opposition strongholds.
APC’s victories in Chikun, Kajuru, Zaria Kewaye, and Basawa constituencies signal growing dominance ahead of future contests.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed the results, with APC candidates winning by wide margins across all constituencies.
Kaduna governor, 4 others show strength in by-elections
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the ruling APC secured a majority of the seats in the by-elections conducted across 16 federal and state constituencies in 12 states, according to results announced so far by INEC.
The elections, held to replace lawmakers who died or resigned after the 2023 general elections, were marred by reports of vote buying, violence and irregularities.
As of Sunday morning, August 17, results show that the APC won 12 of the 16 seats across nine states; APGA secured two seats in Anambra, PDP won one seat in Oyo, and NNPP claimed one seat in Kano.
