Lady Who Lost Former Colleagues in Afriland Towers Fire Shares Their Touching Stories: “I Know Them”

A Nigerian lady, Glory Adiaha Emmanuel, mourned the staff of United Capital Plc who died in the Afriland Towers fire.
She shared their touching stories and how long they’ve been working in the company.

United Capital has disclosed that six of its staff died, including Olumide Oyefodunrin, Jesutoni Shodipo, Kehinde Adeoye, Ndidi Osaemedike-Okeke, Opeyemi Oloyede, and Rebecca Adenuga.
On her Facebook page, she shared a background story about the employees who lost their lives in the fire incident that happened on Tuesday, September 16.

She said in her post:
“There was a fire in my former office building yesterday (Afriland Towers). The fire started from the basement area, the fire cause 3 inverters to blow up, causing smoke from to go up massively. The fire alarm didn’t go off, and nobody knew anything until the smoke had gotten to the 3rd floor (United Capital occupies the 3rd and 4th floors).
“In all I lost 6 former colleagues to smoke. 6 stories.
“1. Ope – she was the bread winner of her family – in compliance department. My nickname for her was Tope Alabi. Though a muslim, she sang TA’s songs effortlessly and sounded like her.
“2. Kenny – she was quite new (2023), just resumed from maternity leave, was going to ask for an extension because she hadn’t found a nanny, also in compliance department.
“3. Rebecca – was single and really searching. She moderated the company’s last investors call, was in Wealth Management. She joined last year.

“4. Ndidi – joined July this year. She was in Trustees.
“5. Olumide – today would have been his 28th birthday. He had been riding in UCAP since his internship. Was originally in treasury but now in Trustees.
“6. Jesutoni – this one hits harder. She’s her father’s baby girl, first fruit. Her father used to be the head of compliance before he moved to Alt Bank. She was also moved to compliance from Trustees when her dad left the company. My teammates had to watch the father run from sterling towers and meet his daughter’s lifeless body.
“To people they are names, but I know them. I know they were good, hardworking people."
In a chat with Legit.ng, Glory stated that she got some information about the deceased employees from a friend working with them.
She said:
“One of the deceased was a friend and a client, because I work with a pension company. Some parts of the story were from me, and some from their direct colleague.”

Kehinde Adeoye's final words to her husband broke hearts, as many sympathised with her family and others who loved her.
