Confusion has set in within the Barcelona camp as Spanish newspaper El Mundo claims it obtained a copy of Lionel Messi’s contract at the Catalan club which has outrageous details.
According to the report, Messi’s deal with Barca is the biggest in sports history as it shows the Argentine would receive a maximum of US$673,919,105 (about N303 billion) over four seasons, if a series of conditions were met.
It was signed in November 2017 during the reign of former club president Josep Bartomeu and will expire on June 30 this year when the player is expected to leave if there is no agreement.
Messi attempted to leave the club last summer when he tendered his transfer request citing a clause in his contract claiming he could leave for free, however he later made a U-turn.
Their most recent set of accounts revealed that Barca's total debt is over a billion euros and player wages are responsible for almost three-quarters of the club's budget.
The El Mundo report - which was released late on Saturday night, January 30, - said Messi's 30-page contract saw Barcelona agree to pay the forward €138,000,000 (about N62billion) per season, including variables.
It included a signing-on bonus of €115,225,000 (about N51billion) for accepting the renewal and a "loyalty" bonus of €77,929,955 (about N35billion).
The newspaper via ESPN claims that with five months still left to run on the deal, Messi has already earned €511,540,545 (over N230billion.
Meanwhile, as discussions continue over his future, Manchester United flop Angel di Maria has been told to stay at Paris Saint Germain as a chef if they refuse to give him a new deal.
The Parisians have been linked with a move to sign Lionel Messi when his contract with Barcelona expires at the end of this campaign.
Although Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in the former Real Madrid winger, however, his wife doesn't seem like she is ready to leave the French capital just yet.
Di Maria's current deal with the Ligue 1 champion expires at the end of this campaign but Jorgelina Cardoso has now told her husband to stay at the club in any capacity he could.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Lionel Messi continues to set and shatter records at Spanish club Barcelona and now the Argentine legend has become the first the club’s first player to make 76 appearances in Copa del Rey.
The 33-year-old multiple Ballon d’Or winner holds a huge number of records but his appearance vs Rayo Vallecano means he sets a new club record.
Messi overtook Josep Samitier, a Barcelona legend who had made 75 appearances for Barcelona in the competition almost a century ago.
