BREAKING: Court dismisses certificate forgery case against Obaseki

- After defeating the APC in the poll, Obaseki has defeated the party again, this time in court

- The APC had dragged Obaseki to court claiming the certificates he submitted to INEC were forged

- However, in a ruling on Saturday, January 9, the court said the APC failed to prove the claim of certificate forgery against Obaseki and dismissed the suit

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state has won the certificate forgery suit instituted against him by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one of its members, Edobor Williams.

According to The Nation, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja dismissed the suit on Saturday, January 9.

Legit.ng gathers that Justice Ahmed Mohammed held that the plaintiffs failed to prove their claim that Obaseki forged the academic certificates that he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The judge reportedly berated the plaintiffs for failing to make any efforts to cross-check from the University of Ibadan and the West African Examination Council (WAEC) that issued the certificates they claimed Obaseki forged.

University of Ibadan defends Governor Obaseki

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the University of Ibadan cleared the controversy surrounding the credentials of Governor Obaseki after the institution presented his certificate to the court.

Obaseki opened his defence on Tuesday, January 6, with a senior official of the university, Abayomi Samuel Ajayi, who is the deputy registrar (legal) in court to present documents, including the original copy of the Bachelor of Arts certificate issued to the governor in 1979.

Ajayi tendered as exhibits before the court relevant pages of the university's calendar for 1976 and admission brochure for degrees.

Nigerians react to Obaseki's victory

Adikwu Abuh commented on Facebook:

"Which certificate did he used for the first tenure? Now that he is not in that party, he become somebody to investigate."

Faruq Salam said:

"Where is that faceless Charles omoregbe. APC E-rats should be fined heavily for constituting nuisance to the court in the course of this suit. They didn't allow the lordship to take a good rest after falling ill with their useless case lacking merit."

Azikiwe Austin Oyuwe commented:

"Tinubu supported the wrong people in Edo state. And Edo is not Lagos."

Etok Etok said:

"Edo State is now out of Tinubu’s 2023 political permutation to access the South-South region.
"Again not a good news for the Jagaban of Lagos.
"Gov. Obaseki and University of Ibadan sef too get strong head."
