Herdsmen crisis: Ihedioha summons meeting between security agencies, Miyetti Allah

The governor of Imo, Emeka Ihedioha, on Tuesday, July 10, asked the heads of security agencies to summon a meeting with the leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) concerning alleged invasion of farmlands by herdsmen.

This position was made known by Raymond Nkemdirim, the governor’s special adviser on security.

Vanguard reports that Nkemdirim said: “We have asked the heads of security agencies to engage the leadership of Miyetti Allah and get back to us quickly so that we can make a decision on the matter.”

Nkemdirim said the government was waiting for the outcome of the meeting.

“They have already started the interface and before the end of today (yesterday) they will get back to us,” he said.

Meanwhile, the report said stakeholders from communities in the south east zone recently noted that beefing up community vigilance groups remains one of the ways to effectively tackle security challenges in the area.

It was learnt that the decision was reached at a meeting of the Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF) at Umuchu, Aguata local government area of Anambra state.

Legit.ng earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday, July 7, said the federal government would ensure punishment for anyone who kills or causes chaos.

The president, who was represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, spoke at the 2019 Nigerian Army Celebration (NADCEL) which held at the Ikeja Cantonment in Lagos.
