Breaking: New APC faction emerges, Buhari’s ally named new chairman

- Weeks after its national convention, the ruling APC has been split into factions

- The new faction is made up of aggrieved members of the APC, mostly from the National Assembly

- Announcing the formation of the group, its top members accused the ruling party of being selective in its anti-graft war

A new faction has broken away from the All progressives Congress (APC) and has called itself the Reformed All Progressives Congress (RAPC).

According to Sahara Reporters, the new faction is the same as the new Peoples Democratic Party which joined the APC in the build-up to the 2015 general elections.

Buba Galadima who is the former national secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change and an ally to President Muhammadu Buhari was named the new chairman of the group.

The Nation reports that Galadima accused the APC of trying to shut out the nPDP from the activities of the party. He said the party would now be addressed as RAPC and that all national and ward leaders have been appointed.

The group claimed that APC has betrayed the hopes and aspirations of the millions of Nigerians that voted it into power.

Galadima said: “The Reformed All Progressive Congress (RAPC) national executive committee is constituted. We are assembled to address you on the state of our party, APC, the state of the nation and above all the constitutional democracy of Nigeria. I am standing here before you as the chairman of RAPC. You will recall that in 2015 general election some political parties came together to form a brand new political party called APC. This merger was based on the strong belief that Nigeria had come of age that it was severely under-performing and incapable to meet the potentials of good governance.

“The Nigerian people gave power to APC based on its promises and potentials. We are sad to inform that after more than three years of governance, our expectations (have been) completely dashed. The APC has run a ruthless and incompetent government that has failed to deliver good governance to the people. It has rather imposed dictatorship, impunity, abuse of power, complete application of constitutional and statutory responsibilities, impunity in the rule of law and constitutionality. It has failed to ensure the security and welfare of Nigerian and elevated nepotism to secondary height.”

Legit.ng had reported that the former new PDP bloc of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to announce its exit from the mainstream of the party in preparation to joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
