Espanyol of Spain are desperate in bolstering their squad ahead of the coming season, but they are yet to complete a move for any player this summer.
Soccernet are reporting that talented Nigerian midfield sensation Kelechi Nwakali is now the major target for the La Liga club ahead of the coming season.
Espanyol returned to the Spanish topflight after gaining promotion last season when they finished top of the Segunda Division.
They have renewed Javi Puado’s deal after it expired in June but believe they need more reinforcements for the challenges ahead.
Espanyol are convinced they have found the ideal addition to boost their midfield options in Nigerian sensation Nwakali who plays for Huesca.
There’s a €15 million release clause in Nwakali’s contract with Huesca, but, as per Pricos Marca, financially limited Espanyol will offer to take the former Golden Eaglets star on loan.
In a chat, former Nigeria U-15 media officer and popular sports journalist Tobi Adepoju stated that Espanyol will present Nwakali with an opportunity put his career back on track.
He told Legit.ng:
“Nwakali is talented, he has the potential to be a great player. Unfortunately, he hasn't hit it big for years.
"This is an exciting deal to bring his career back on track; he is that creative midfielder the Super Eagles is missing. He has the LaLiga experience and it will be easy for him to settle down.
“He can be a top player in LaLiga and I think Espanyol will offer the opportunity to return to reckon. He has to work hard and get serious as well.
“He has to put his previous disappointments behind him and take this opportunity with his heart. I hope he makes the move and make it a good season.”
Musa secures return to Europe
Turkish league giants Karagumruk SK have secured the services of Nigeria international Ahmed Musa on a one-year deal.
The 28-year-old winger has already been unveiled by the Super Lig outfit ahead of the 2021-22 season which will kick off a few weeks from now.
Coach Francesco Farioli will be banking on the former CSKA Moscow and Leicester City winger by the time the season starts next month.
