A Nigerian lawyer has reacted to the drama between Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, and Linus Williams Ifejirika, known as Blord, and listed five things which Blord allegedly did to VeryDarkMan that led him to petition against Blord, resulting in Blord ending up in prison.

Speaking about the issue, he said:

"VERYDARKMAN, B-LORD, SOWORE AND THE REST OF US."
"There's a book authored by Rtd Justice Biobele A. Georgewill titled *THE RIGHT TO A GOOD NAME: LAW OF DEFAMATION SIMPLIFIED*, published in 2011. Till date, I doubt if there’s any simpler authority published on defamation. I recommend a copy to everyone who cares about exercising their freedom of expression and understanding how it is exercised by others."
"The Right to a Good Name* (not the book referred above) is in reality a coterie of criminal and civil legislations that ranges from freedom of expression and its limitations to the right to life, the right to human dignity, the right to privacy, which extends to data protection, impersonation, cyberbullying, cyberstalking, forgery, etc."
"Now, while many jurisdictions have moved away from criminal prosecution of defamatory wrongs, recognizing that many crimes are competing for law enforcement and court attention, Nigeria remains one of those jurisdictions where defamatory wrongs can be remedied by criminal trial and civil suits, either jointly or separately, depending on the victim's discretion."

"But it must also be noted that the relief a victim gets through criminal prosecution is often faster than civil litigation, ranging from arrest, detention, remand, and eventual conviction and sentencing at minimal cost borne statutorily by the state, with or without support from the victim. Civil litigation, on the other hand, requires the victim to fund the process, convince the court to issue injunctions, and follow through diligently and patiently, hoping for a final judgment in their favor and eventual damages awarded. Interestingly, one can still pursue both avenues concurrently or consecutively."

The lawyer further listed five things that Blord allegedly did to Martins Vincent Otse that led VDM to petition against him, a move that eventually landed Blord in prison.

Listing them, he wrote:

"In the case of VeryDarkMan and B-Lord, the facts, according to the former, are:"
"1. MR. LINUS WILLIAMS IFEJIRIKA A.K.A BLORD forged flight tickets with VDM's name, “Martins Otse,” and claimed VDM was joining him in Onitsha to launch his Blunt Gadget app."
"2. He allegedly claimed to have paid VDM ₦500 million to be his brand ambassador."
"3. He allegedly further claimed that Martins Vincent Otse approved the Billpoint App."
"4. He also printed a billboard with VDM’s face and brand on it and claimed VDM was his ambassador without VDM's consent."
5. He printed different fliers with VDM’s face on them, claiming they had an agreement."
"Whereas all of the above are false."
"So, instead of suing Blord, VDM petitioned him and had him arrested and arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on various charges on 1st April 2026, where he was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre on the same day. Trust VDM for dark irony! Blord and his fans, family, and friends could still be thinking it’s an April Fool prank, until his hair and beard are shaved, as is the custom at the correctional centre, and he spends his first night there."

"Interestingly, VDM still reserves the right to pursue a civil suit for defamation while the criminal trial is ongoing, provided the charges do not carry defamation outrightly. Otherwise, he’ll have to wait for a conviction to rely on the record of proceedings and evidence to consolidate and prove his civil suit. Legally speaking, VDM has every right to take the road he’s chosen."
