FIRS Announces What it Will Do for Children of Afriland Towers Fire Victims

The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, on Thursday, September 25, announced automatic employment for the children of senior staff who perished in the Afriland Towers fire in Lagos.
He made the declaration during a memorial service held in Lagos to honour the four FIRS officials who lost their lives in the inferno.

Lagos: Tragic fire claims multiple lives
The fire that on 16th September, 2025, consumed the Afriland Towers, Broad Street, Lagos took at least ten lives, impacting the employees of various corporate offices in the tower, Daily Trust reported.

United Capital Plc, with offices on the third and fourth floors of the structure, also attested to six of its employees died in the collapse.The chairman of the FIRS described the action as one to assuage the pains of the bereaved families and keep the memories of the victims alive through continued service to the nation.
While in his eulogy of the dead, Adedeji also demanded tighter security on high-rise offices within the country to avoid such an occurrence in the future.
FIRS mourned the loss of four of its senior officials: Mrs Ekelikhostse George (Assistant Director), Mr David Sunday-Jatto (Assistant Director), Mrs Nkem Onyemelukwe (Senior Manager), and Mr Peter Ifaranmaye (Manager).

The deceased were reportedly trapped on the sixth and seventh floors of Afriland Towers while carrying out official duties when the fire erupted.
Speaking at the memorial service, Zacch Adedeji said:
“We are committed to supporting the families of our fallen colleagues. Their children will be automatically offered employment opportunities within the service to honour the legacy of their parents.”
The FIRS chairman described the initiative as a measure to alleviate the hardships faced by the bereaved families and ensure the memory of the victims is preserved through continued service to the nation, Vanguard reported.
While paying tribute to the deceased, Adedeji also called for stricter safety protocols in high-rise office buildings across the country to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Last words of lady who died in Afriland Towers
Legit.ng earlier reported that the last words of an employee of United Capital Plc who died in the Afriland Towers fire have been made public.
Kehinde Adeoye was among the six employees of the company who passed away from the fire that engulfed the Afriland Towers in Lagos, where the company's office was located.
Remembering its employees who died in the fire accident, the company released a post on X, displaying their pictures and ages. Responding to the tweet, a lady named Boluwatife, @tifeogunjimi, shared the last words of her friend, Kehinde, who died in the fire.
