Kaduna Youth Protest Killing of 23-year-old Painter on Football Field by Security Operatives

Barnawa, Kaduna State – A large number of youths have stormed the streets of Barnawa, located in Kaduna South Local Government Area, staging a protest following the alleged death of Abubakar Abdullahi, a 23-year-old painter, on a football pitch by security personnel.

The incident allegedly occurred following combined operations by security operatives in the state to smoke out suspected hoodlums in the community, as reported by Daily Trust.
According to witnesses, the situation escalated when security operatives arrived at a football field close to Market Road to apprehend a group of suspected criminals. Abdullahi was allegedly shot by one of the operatives, triggering widespread outrage.
His father, Abdullahi Musa, recounted the emotional moment when Abubakar was shot unprovoked, right in front of him.
“He went to play football when security operatives in over 30 vehicles stormed the field. He ran towards me, but two officers grabbed him. Suddenly, one brought out a gun and shot him in the side of the face, right in front of me,” he said.
Abdullahi’s mother, Aisha Abdullahi, appealed to Governor Uba Sani for justice.
Kaduna Police spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the incident, saying the Commissioner of Police had ordered a full-scale investigation.

Police arrest suspected ritualist in Akwa Ibom
Legit.ng previously reported that a suspected ritualist, Cletus Bassey, has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom state police command for making ‘bulletproof’ charms for robbers in Akwa Ibom State. Police operatives recovered a firearm from the suspect in the Uruan local government area of the state.
The state police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Timfon John, said Bassey was apprehended on July 29, 2025, at about 7 pm at his shrine located in Nung Oku Village area in the state.
According to DSP John, preliminary investigations revealed that Bassey was allegedly involved in ritualistic activities.
Security operatives battle bandits in Kwara
Legit.ng also reported that the Kwara state government said that it has established an immediate security cordon around Babanla, a troubled community in Ifelodun local government area (LGA).
Findings by Legit.ng revealed that the development follows a security breach on Friday, August 8, by some armed bandits in the north-central state.
According to a statement signed by Rafiu Ajakaye, the chief press secretary (CPS) to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, obtained by Legit.ng, the criminals on Friday, August 8, targeted a police station, attempted to loot a few grocery shops, and a hotel in the community before they were repelled by the security forces and courageous members of the community.
