President Muhammadu Buhari has described former president of Nigeria, Umaru Musa Yar’adua, as a patriot despite their political differences.

Yar’adua had passed on as a serving president in 2010. Buhari in commemoration of the 10th year anniversary of his death stated on Tuesday, May 5, that history will always remember Yar’adua’s honest and sincere service to the country, Channels TV reports.

According to a statement issued through one of his media aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari said the late president had passion for the masses and extolled the late Yar’adua for reversing policies that were hurting ordinary Nigerians.

In another report, in a captivating and touching post on Facebook, former president Goodluck Jonathan has described his predecessor Umar Musa Yar’Adua as a president like no other who lived and died for the sake of Nigeria.

Jonathan's post came ten years after the death of the former president.

The former president described Yar'Adua as someone who stood on the side of the people, and who toiled day and night to make Nigerians' lives better.

Meanwhile, in its efforts to curb the devastating spread of coronavirus in the country, the federal government has announced that it is initiating a programme of decontaminating and disinfecting schools nationwide.

Muhammad Mahmood, the minister of environment, who disclosed this on Monday, May 4, at the Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja said the schools would be disinfected before they open.

According to Daily Trust, the minister said the Ministry of Environment is liaising with the federal Ministry of Education to get the data of schools nationwide in order to carry out the exercise.

Though Mahmood did not reveal when the disinfection exercise would start, he noted that the Ministry of Environment has been making efforts to begin the programme.
