- He stressed that it will be a sad commentary if the present administration continues to compromise national interest
The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion Diocese on the Niger, has stated that geo-political identity, faulty political legacies, and absence of commonly shared values and vision are preventing Nigeria from being organised into one unified people, with one heart and purpose.
The assertion was made by the diocese’s bishop, Rt Rev Dr Owen Nwokolo, during an address he presented in Alor, Idemili-South local government area, during the 30th Synod of the diocese which took place at St Paul’s Anglican Church, Alor, Vanguard reports.
Legit.ng gathers that Nwokolo also listed poor performance of leaders, their ineptitude and grand impunity, widespread insecurity and biting poverty, as being responsible for an inability to build a united and progressive nation anchored on shared values, single-handed vision and clearly articulated purpose that is acceptable by all.

The bishop urged the Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government to listen to the voice of reason and restructure Nigeria politically. According to him, that is the only way of achieving peace and unity in the country.
He regretted that “since the end of the Nigeria/ Biafra civil war, several programmes and initiatives aimed at building national cohesion and rallying the populace around a common cause, failed either because they were either tactical or short lived."
He continued: “The ineptitude and grand impunity of the leadership in the country has not helped matters, neither has the unsatisfactory way the present administration is handling the killer herdsmen that have become monsters in some communities in Nigeria, particularly Benue state, helped the situation.
“The Boko Haram insurgents are allegedly decimated, yet they are still staring Nigerians in the face. The federal government should be highly interested in the security of lives and property.
“It will be a sad commentary if the present administration continues to compromise national interest, since it will be the worst mistake that will affect the present administration’s developmental roadmap and objective."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Anglican Diocese of Udi in Enugu state commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the financial autonomy bill for state Houses of Assembly and judiciary into law.
The Synod, however, urged the federal government to replicate the same feat for local government councils in the country.
