APC convention: Protest rocks party over alleged removal of nPDP members from committee

- Some members of the APC have protested over the list of committee for the party's upcoming convention

- The aggrieved members are accusing the presidency of doctoring the list

- One of the aggrieved members claims they were told Aisha Buhari sent in about 50 names to be replaced from the original list

Some members of the defunct new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) on Wednesday, May 23, protested the alleged removal of their names from the list of committee for the All Progressives Congress convention slated for June 23, 2018.

The members are alleging that the presidency has doctored the list and names of nPDP members have been removed and replaced with a list reportedly sent in by the wife of the president, Aisha Buhari.

Vanguard reports that this happened in Abuja during the inauguration of sub-committees by Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa state.

An aggrieved member who spoke with the press said: “We were told that the wife of the President sent in about 50 names to be replaced from the original list.”

Speaking with newsmen, Badaru said the date of the convention was still undecided as some of his committee members had now suggested that the convention be held on June 23 as opposed to the June 2 many had initially thought the exercise would hold.

He said: “It was suggested today that we should have the convention on June 23 but we will have to discuss it with the national secretariat to confirm the date."

Badaru also dismissed rumours that his committee was planning to spend N6 billion on the convention. He said: “We are raising it (the money) among the party members and they have started donating.

"I am very sure it is very far less than that. We are getting all the budgets from all the sub-committees but I can assure you that it is far less. Knowing me and knowing what I stand for, you will know that it will be the cheapest convention ever.”
