Just in: Troops arrest 8 armed bandits in Taraba

- Eight armed bandits have been arrested in Taraba state along road Manya-Gangun in Ussa local government area

- Two AK47 rifles, one K2 rifle, 2 dane guns, 56 rounds of 7.62 special ammunition, 25 K2 rounds, 3 cartridges, charms and phones were also recovered

- The Army urged Nigerians to report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency

The Nigerian Army has disclosed that troops have nabbed some armed bandits along road Manya-Gangun in Ussa local government area of Taraba state.

It was disclosed that two AK47 rifles, one K2 rifle, two dane guns, 56 rounds of 7.62 special ammunition, 25 K2 rounds, three cartridges, charms and phones were recovered from the bandits.

The army disclosed the capture of the criminals in a statement signed by Colonel Kayode Ogunsanya, deputy director, Army public relations.

"Troops of Sector 3 deployed under the auspices of Operation WHIRL STROKE while on patrol yesterday came in contact with armed bandits along road Manya - Gangun in Ussa local government area of Taraba state and 8 armed bandits were arrested.

"Items recovered include; 2 AK 47 rifles, one K2 rifle, 2 Dane guns, 56 rounds of 7.62 special ammunition, 25 K2 rounds, 3 cartridges, charms and phones. They are currently in own custody undergoing interrogation.

"Members of the public are once again reminded to report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency," he said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, ordered for the deployment of a surveillance aircraft to Taraba in order to improve the security situation in the state.

IGP Idris made this known when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Dairus Ishaku of Taraba state at the Government House, Jalingo on Monday, April 9.

He said his order was due to the governor's request for additional men and materials to curb the upsurge of killings in the state, when they met few weeks back.
