Election tribunal sacks APC lawmaker
- An election petition tribunal in Katsina has nullified the election of Mansur Ali Mashi, an APC lawmaker representing the Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency at the House of Representatives
- The chairman of the tribunal, L.M Boufini, cited some irregularities which had occurred during the election, as reasons why Mashi’s victory was nullified
- Boufini ordered that fresh by-elections should be conducted within 90 days across the polling stations in the constituency
The election of Mansur Ali Mashi , an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker representing the Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency at the House of Representatives, has been nullified by the election petition tribunal in Katsina, The Cable reports.
Mashi’s victory had been challenged by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the election, Nazifi Yusuf.

Legit.ng gathers that the tribunal which delivered judgement on Wednesday, November 15, ordered that fresh by-elections should be conducted in the constituency’s 15 polling units.
The judgment was delivered by L.M. Boufini, the chairman of the election tribunal.
Boufini stated that the tribunal was convinced that during the May 20 by-election in the constituency, various irregularities had occurred.
According to Boufini, results in some polling stations which were reportedly been attacked by thugs, had been canceled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He further stated that the petitioner, Nazifi Yusuf, had been able to prove that card readers malfunctioned during the election, and that some voters were not allowed to exercise their civic rights.
Boufini thus directed that fresh elections should be conducted within 90 days.
The counsel to the respondent, Ernest Obunadike, however stated that the judgment would be appealed by his client.

In a related development, Legit.ng previously reported that the national and state assembly elections petition tribunal in Nasarawa nullified the election of Abubakar Sarki Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the re-run election in Lafia/Obi federal constituency.
The tribunal declared Rep. Joseph Haruna Kigbu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the poll.
