Biafra: Buhari sends northern governors to southeast, south-south on ‘peace mission’ (photos)
- Some northern governors have been sent to some states in the southeast and south-south on a peace mission
- The governors include Alhaji Kashim Shattima, the chairman of the forum and governor of Borno state, Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi and Hon Simon Lalong of Plateau state
- The delegation is expected to assure the southeast and south-south governors that all Nigerians are free to live anywhere in the country without molestation
President Muhammadu Buhari dispatched a delegation of northern governors to the south-east and south-south in a bid to secure peace after riots broke out in Abia state over deployment of the military to the area.
The team of five governors is led by Kashim Shetimma (Borno), who is also the chairman of northern governors forum.

Others on the peace mission are Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi and Hon Simon Lalong of Plateau states.
The governors paid a visit to Abia state, where they met with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
They also met with their Rivers counterpart, Nyesom Wike, as they touched down in the south-south state.
The delegation is also expected to head to Cross-River state, on their peace mission.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Imam Imam, read: “Apart from the visit to political leaderships in those states, the delegation is expected to meet with traditional and religious leaders. They will also confer with Northerners resident in those states.

“Importantly, the delegation will reassure their counterparts in the South-South and Southeast that all Nigerians are free to stay in all parts of the country, especially in the North, and that the entire North stands with the people of South East in this period of heightened tension.
