Just in: Buhari's Aide Shares Photos as Police Foil Attempt to Kidnap Nigerian Cleric

- The Nigerian Police Force on Wednesday, June 2, arrested and paraded some suspects linked to an attempt to kidnap a Christian cleric

- Lauretta Onochie, one of President Buhari's media aides, revealed that the arrest was carried out in Kaduna

- Onochie also disclosed that the police have arrested not less than 84 criminals and recovered weapons from them

Kaduna - An attempt by some armed abductors to kidnap a Catholic bishop in Zaria, Kaduna state was foiled by police operatives on Wednesday, June 2.

Reporting this, Lauretta Onochie, a presidential media aide, via her Twitter page, noted that the victory on the part of the force is a result of a new security action plan now in operation to ensure the security of Nigerians.

Onochie said the police so far have used this robust strategy to arrest not less than 84 suspects across the country in one month.

She disclosed that among the firearms recovered by security personnel during operations were one GPMG, one LAR rifle, 17 AK47 rifles, two Pump Action rifles, 20 local firearms, three single barrel guns, 9899 live ammunition, 80 fake vehicle number plates and one Toyota Camry-No. AA 792 HJA1-Toyota Corolla LE No. QAP 622 AA.

Gunmen kill Catholic priest in Katsina

Meanwhile, gunmen in Kastina on Thursday, May 20, killed a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Alphonsus Bello, and abducted another cleric, Fr. Joe Keke, at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church Malunfashi, in the state.

Eyewitnesses told journalists that the attackers stormed the Catholic parish with gunshots which injured many persons on the night of Thursday.

The sad news was confirmed by Padre Mike Umoh, the national social communications director, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria.

Umoh, reporting the tragedy, said:

"Two priests were kidnapped, Frs. Joe Keke and Alphonsus Bello. Fr Keke, the former parish priest, is in his late 70s while Fr. Bello, the current parish priest, is in his 30s.
“This morning the body of Fr Alphonsus Bello was found lifeless in the farmland behind the Catechetical Training School, Malunfashi. However, the whereabouts of Fr. Joe Keke is still unknown. No contact has been made thus far.”
