Frank Lampard could be axed at Premier League club Chelsea as reports have it that top chiefs at the Stamford Bridge outfit are considering sacking the manager.

Top outlet The Athletic are claiming that Lampard’s position is under serious threat as the Blues are already prepared to shop for a replacement.

This is following Chelsea’s 1-3 home loss to rivals Manchester City on Sunday, January 3, which condemned them to a fourth defeat in six matches.

City put the game to bed in the first half with three goals as it was a one-sided affair in the first stanza.

Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne all found the back of the net in the first half to bury the game before Callum Hudson-Odoi grabbed the consolation goal in stoppage-time.

It becomes Chelsea's worst start to a Premier League season in all of the 17 years Roman Abramovich has been at the helm as owner.

The poor streak of results has further seen Lampard record the worst average points per game during the Russian's tenure, with the English boss averaging 1.67 points from 55 EPL matches.

Statistics have also shown that the tally is worse than that of former club managers Andres Villas-Boas and Luiz Felipe Scolari.

Lampard's situation is described as "fluid", with no timeframe for when he may lose his job.

An improvement in results could mean the 42-year-old could see out the rest of the season.

It is claimed tensions have built between Lampard and a number of his first-team squad.

Meanwhile, earlier reported that Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur eased back to the third position on the Premier League table after beating Leeds United 3-0 at their North London Stadium this weekend.

A goal each from Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Toby Alderweireld ensured Spurs bounced back to winning ways for the first time since their victory over Arsenal mid-December.

The triumph was definitely a relief for the Portuguese-born manager who is challenging for the EPL title this term.
