CAN tells FG to arrest leaders of Miyetti Allah

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged the federal government to immediately arrest the leaders of the Miyetti Allah for allegedly sponsoring crimes in the country.

Reverend Samson Ayokunle, the CAN president on Thursday, January 23, accused the group of being behind killings in Southern Kaduna, Benue, Plateau, Taraba, and other states, The Nation reports.

The CAN president said Christians in the country have become endangered species following the recent attacks in the country, Vanguard newspaper reports.

Meanwhile, one of the leading group from the northern part of the country Miyetti Allah has revealed that they are scared of the Amotekun security initiative. This was disclosed by the national secretary of the group, Saleh Alhassan.

According to him, if the Amotekun security outfit is allowed to operate, it could turn out to be a disaster for the country. He disclosed this to Channels TV on Tuesday, January 21.

Going further, he described the initiative as a “threat to democracy”.

Similarly, the national president-general of Miyetti Allah Kautal, Bello Abdullahi Bodejo has called on the federal government to arrest Yoruba leaders promoting Operation Amotekun, the newly created southwest security outfit.

Bodejo who made the statement in an interview with Daily Sun, alleged that the aim of setting up the security outfit by southwest governors was to ban Fulani herdsmen from Yorubaland.

His said matters of security should be left for security organisations, adding that he saw no reason why the southwest should setup a security outfit.

However, Yinka Odumakin, the spokesman of the Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG), says those who are afraid of Operation Amotekun are criminals. Odumakin made the comment while appearing as a guest on a Channels Television programme.

According to him, the launch of the security outfit is for the protection of the ordinary people within the southwest.

He argued that security is not on the Executive List as some have said, stressing that what concerns the executive arm of government is defence, adding that security is the responsibility of every Nigerian citizen.
