BREAKING: Police arrest 3 of its officers over alleged fatal shooting in Lagos

- Three officers of the police command in Lagos are said to be in custody for alleged indiscriminate shooting in the evening of Sunday, March 31

- It was gathered that the fatal shooting of the officers who went on a raid in the Mangoro area of the state led to the death of one Kolade Johnson

- According to a police chief, the officers, if found guilty, will be discharged from the force as part of their punishment

Three policemen have been arrested over the fatal shooting of one Kolade Johnson in Lagos on Sunday, March 31.

It all happened when a police patrol van packed somewhere in the Mangoro area of the state, in search of a suspect as Johnson was watching a football match with other viewers on Sunday evening, Premium Times reports.

Eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity reveal that the policemen suspected he was a criminal and shot him because he had dreadlocks. It was gathered that the officers arrested not less than 12 young men with similar hairstyles.

Concerning the development, a top police official who revealed the number of officers involved in the raid might be more than three, said: “Three police officers have been arrested now in Lagos for the trouble they have caused the man’s family and Nigeria as a whole.

“An orderly room trial will be conducted against the officers, and, if found guilty, they will be summarily discharged from the police and charged to court for murder.”

“We have learnt at the Force Headquarters that the officers might be more than three, and we have given the police commissioner in Lagos a strict instruction to make sure that all those involved are identified, and punished, no matter their ranks.”

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that some residents of Mangoro/Onipetesi community in Lagos on Sunday went on a rampage blocking the Oshodi/Abeokuta expressway in protest against the killing of a youth in the area.

The angry residents blocked the major roads with tyres and woods after a youth was allegedly shot dead by policemen from Anti-cultism unit of Lagos state command.
