An Islamic scholar and Lagos state commissioner for home affairs, Dr. Abdul-Hakeem Abdul-Lateef, has enjoined Muslims all over the country to put their trust in Allah in order to live a meaningful life.

Legit.ng reports that the cleric made the plea on Monday, May 28, during 11th annual Ramadan lecture organised by the chief whip of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Hon. Rotimi Abiru.

Delivering a lecture titled: ‘Islam the religion of peace’ Abdul-Lateef, said that total reliance in Allah and constant remembrance of death could guarantee peaceful life and successful Hereafter.

He said that all conscious Muslims should have absolute trust in their Creator, adding that nobody can become anything in life without Allah’s will.

“If you want to have peace in life, always remember death. This will enable you to always do the righteous deeds and jettison the acts that are forbidden by Allah, the most High. Always remember that you were sent to this world for a purpose – the worship of Allah and one day, you will be taken into account what you did with life bestowed on you by Allah while on earth.

“Yesterday, you were nothing, the sun rose without you and the rain fell without you. Today, you are alive and tomorrow, you will be dead and everything will be done without you. You must always have absolute trust in Allah because He is the only One who can make you something in life”, he said.

Quoting from the glorious Qur’an chapter 17 verse 23-24, the cleric said that one of the things that could make one incur Allah’s wrath is to associate partner with Him and be rude to one’s parents.

He said: “Your Lord has decreed that you should not worship anything but Him alone and be good to your parents. And should both or any one of them attain old age with you, do not say to them even "fie" neither chide them, but speak to them with respect, and be humble and tender to them and say: "Lord, show mercy to them as they nurtured me when I was small.”

According to him, “this commandment is very comprehensive. It prohibits not only the worship of anyone except Allah but also implies that one should obey and serve and submit to Allah alone without question.

“One should accept His commandments and law alone to be worthy of obedience and His authority to be supreme above all. This was not merely an instruction confined to a religious creed and individual practice but it serves as the foundation of the moral, cultural, and political system which was practically established in Al-Madinah by the Prophet (May Allah's peace and mercy be upon him). Its first and foremost principle was that Allah alone is the Master, Sovereign and Law-giver.”

Earlier in his opening address, the chief whip of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Hon. Rotimi Abiru, expressed satisfaction over the turnout of people at the event as he admonished them to use the period of Ramadan to move closer to their Lord.

“It is with great delight that I welcome you to the 11th edition of my annual ‘Iftar Sooim’- Feeding fasting faithful. Even as Ramadan remains a priceless opportunity to take action and become better servant to humanity, it is also an avenue for us to examine ourselves while we cultivate a very sober heart and a highly reflective and contemplative spirit as fasting reminds us that we are not the provider but the provided. Not the giver nor self-sufficient but the very dependent. In other words, we are meant to constantly realise that success comes only by Allah’s power and manifold mercies.

“This year’s Ramadan lecture themed: 'Islam, the religion of peace’ is dedicated to further re-orientate and reiterate the need for peaceful coexistence in our communities as no development can be achieved or sustained without peace and tranquilities. Islam is a religion of peace in the fullest sense of the words as the Allah we serve, the Most merciful, the Most compassionate does not harbor any disturbance of peace”, Abiru said.
