From Lagos to London: How Bincom Dev Center Helped Ade Lawal Conquer the Global Tech Stage
Isn't it fascinating how one step can redefine your entire career trajectory? That’s the inspiring story of Ade Lawal, a young tech enthusiast whose dream of becoming a global tech professional transformed into reality after enrolling in a life-changing program at Bincom Dev Center, a global tech talent development platform. His journey from the bustling streets of Lagos to the dynamic tech offices in the UK is a roadmap for aspiring talents aiming to make a mark in the global tech scene.

A Humble Beginning with Big Dreams
Ten years ago, Ade Lawal was just another Nigerian student seeking a six-month internship to complete his studies. His search led him to Bincom Dev Center, where he joined as a software engineering intern. This opportunity provided him with his first exposure to the fintech industry.
Reflecting on his experience, Lawal shared in a recent eMigr8 Open Day webinar, “The internship was relatively short, lasting about six months, but it offered me invaluable exposure to the fintech industry. During this time, I worked as a software engineer and met some brilliant minds whose relationships became beneficial to me later.”
This internship became more than just work experience; it marked the beginning of Lawal’s journey into tech. After graduation, he worked as a software engineer, eventually transitioning into product management—a shift that allowed him to merge technical expertise with business strategy.
Eyeing Global Horizons
Despite a promising career in Nigeria, Lawal yearned for a global stage. Observing peers excelling internationally, he realised the gap wasn’t only in his skills but also in how he presented himself. This realisation brought him back to Bincom Dev Center, this time for their Global Tech program, which is designed to make tech talents globally attractive for job opportunities.
“The program was flexible enough for me to complete in the evenings, allowing me to keep my day job while committing 10 to 20 hours weekly,” Lawal explained. His participation not only sharpened his product management skills but also introduced him to global team dynamics and product development methodologies.
The program played a pivotal role in equipping him with practical skills and connecting him with a network of like-minded professionals, all while solidifying his aspirations for a global career.
Startup Dreams with Labs by Bincom
Not one to rest on his laurels as part of the program, Lawal joined the LABS by Bincom program, a three to six-month startup incubation initiative offered by the Bincom Dev Center. This initiative was designed to empower tech professionals to develop and launch startup ideas while learning the intricacies of entrepreneurship.
With the support of a coach and a dedicated team, Lawal embarked on product development. While challenges arose, the program was a crash course in resilience and leadership.
One pivotal moment was creating his first pitch deck. Lawal recounted, “With guidance from my team and feedback from senior product managers, we presented our pitch, and I was fortunate to be chosen as the team leader, further building my leadership skills.”
Through the program, he also gained insights into navigating global markets, preparing him for his next big leap.
The Global Leap
Armed with the skills, confidence, and connections provided by Bincom Dev Center, Lawal pursued the founder route to become a Global Tech Talent in the UK. eMigr8 Tech Visa platform was the perfect pathway. Though his initial application was rejected, he remained undeterred. With encouragement and support from his eMigr8 coach, Bade Adesemowo, he revised and resubmitted the application, which was eventually accepted.
Upon arrival in the UK, Lawal faced cultural and professional adjustments. Here again, the guidance and support he received from Bincom Dev Center's tech talent visa platform, eMigr8, proved invaluable.
Since his arrival in the UK, he has learned two major lessons:
1. Cultural Fit Matters: “In the UK, employers assess whether you can thrive in their specific work environment. For instance, one employer didn’t proceed with my application because they thought the distance I'd need to travel daily might impact my job satisfaction, even though they believed I was qualified,” he says.
2. Achievement-Oriented CVs: “In Nigeria, I could get by with a CV that listed ‘I did this, I did that.’ But here, they want to know: What did you achieve? What impact did you make?” he reveals.
Advice for Aspiring Global Tech Talents
For beginners dreaming of a global tech career, Lawal’s advice is simple yet profound:
“Approach this journey as a marathon, not a sprint. It may take months or even a few years, and even after arriving in the UK, the journey continues. Focus on achieving key milestones along the way and enjoy the process.
For seasoned professionals, his recommendation is to lean into communities like eMigr8 and seek mentorship.
“Despite your expertise, avoid trying to do it all alone. Connect with mentors, engage with the community, and work closely with a coach. With this support, I believe success is inevitable.”
The Role of Bincom Dev Center in Lawal’s Success
Throughout Lawal’s journey, the Bincom Dev Center was a consistent pillar of support. From his first internship to his startup venture with LABS by Bincom and ultimately his relocation to the UK as a Global Tech Talent, the platform provided mentorship, training, and a network of resources tailored to his growth.
Bincom Dev Center’s programs go beyond technical skills, emphasising soft skills, global readiness, and entrepreneurial mindset—key attributes that enabled Ade to adapt seamlessly to the UK’s tech ecosystem.
