Ahmad Lawan, president of the Senate, said on Tuesday, December 31, that Nigeria will experience what he called robust peace and economic growth in 2020.
Lawan said this as part of his New Year message to Nigerians.
Congratulating the citizens, who are alive to see the end of 2019 and the beginning of the year 2020, Lawan commended Nigerians for their resilience and passion to ensure the unity and prosperity of the country.
He also thanked them for supporting the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
"I have no doubt in my mind that with the timely passage of the budget, restoration of the January to December financial year and other amendments recently made to our laws by the ninth National Assembly, the economy will enjoy significant growth in the new year," Lawan said in a statement sent to Legit.ng.
Lawan promised Nigerians that the National Assembly will continue to do its best by coming up with people-oriented activities.
Legit.ng reports that on its part, the All Progressives Congress (APC) asked Nigerians to expect more democratic dividends from the Muhammadu Buhari administration in the year 2020.
The ruling party in a New Year message signed by its national publicity secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, stated: “Nigerians are assured that the ongoing massive infrastructural development covering the rail, road, agriculture, aviation, port, education and health sectors would be given a further fillip.”
The APC further stated that the Buhari government “is vigorously tackling and solving the social, economic and security challenges our country faces one after the other.”
