Jobless man arraigned in court for allegedly robbing woman with cutlass

- A jobless man has been arraigned before an Ikeja court for allegedly using a cutlass to dispossess a woman of her money and phone

- The accused reportedly committed the offences with others now at large, on May 4, at 10.30pm

- The offences contravene Sections 296 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015

An unemployed man, Azzez Saka, who allegedly robbed a woman of her handbag containing N30,000 and a cell phone valued at N45,000 at cutlass-point, was on Wednesday, May 23, brought before an Ikeja magistrates’ court, NAN reports.

Saka, 30, who resides at Ajegunle area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and robbery.

Legit.ng gathers that the accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate, O. Sule-Amzat, who gave the ruling, said the sureties should be blood relations of the accused. In addition, the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to the Lagos state Government.

Police prosecutor Benson Emuerhi told the court that the accused committed the offences with others now at large on May 4 at 10.30pm at Elegbin, Ajegunle area of Lagos.

Emuerhi said the accused, who was armed with a cutlass and some other dangerous weapons, robbed the complainant, Akeem Olamide of N30,000 and an Infinix phone all valued at N75,000.

He stated: "The complainant was returning home from work when she was attacked by the accused, who dispossessed her of her belongings."

The offences contravened Sections 296 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015. Section 296 stipulates seven years jail term for robbery.

July 26 has been fixed for the trial.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the police officer in charge of Maroko area of Lagos arrested a 27-year old man for threatening people with toy guns.

The suspect, identified as Sunday, was arrested during a failed robbery attack, and was taken into custody. He narrated how he had, in the past, robbed people, especially women, with toy guns in Maroko area of the state.
