EFCC docks 3 INEC officials over N163.9 million election bribe

- Three INEC officials have been arraigned in court over N163.9 million alleged bribe

- The three allegedly conspired among themselves to bribe INEC Staff to influence the out come of the 2015 general elections

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Gombe state zonal office on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, arraigned three Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials in court over N163.9 million election bribe.

Dr Godwin Kwanga, former Plateau state resident electoral commissioner; Usman Baba Bukar, former INEC administrative secretary in Plateau state and Jonathan Azi Nyako, a retired INEC staff, were arraigned before Justice C. L. Dabup of Plateau state High Court.

The trio were arraigned on two count charge bordering on conspiracy and bribery.

The defendants allegedly used their positions and conspired among themselves to bribe INEC Staff to influence the out come of the 2015 general election in favour of one of the political party.

Legit.ng previously reported that some senior officials of the INEC in Taraba state have been reported to security agencies for allegedly registering ineligible voters during the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The head of voter education and publicity in Taraba state, Fabian Vwamhi, stated that the report was made by the Taraba state office after it discovered that some ineligible voters were imputed in the ongoing CVR exercise, The Punch reports.

The commission said the illegal voters had been removed from the register and that the electoral officer as well as the registration officer for the centre had been queried over the issue.
