The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a Nigerian political party founded in August 1998 by members of various groups and organisations, including the G-18 and G-34 groups.

The party has a broad political base and supports economic deregulation, human rights, and increased funding for healthcare and education, among other goals.

The first political party in Nigeria was the Nigerian National Democratic Party (NNDP), founded by Herbert Macaulay on June 24, 1923.

The party’s primary objective was to sponsor people for elections on the legislative council and obtain local self-government for Lagos.
