Nigeria's Paralympic Gold Medalist and World Record Holder Paul Kehinde Dies at the Age of 33

Paralympic gold medalist and current world record-holder in the men’s 65kg weightlifting category Paul Kehinde is dead.

According to a report on BBC and Daily Post, Kehinde died at the age of 33 on Thursday, November 18, after a brief illness.

Kehinde was also a two-time world record holder and broke many records while winning a lot of medals during his industrious career.

His achievements include a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, a gold medal at Malaysia World Cup, a gold medal at the 2015 African Games, gold medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, a gold medal Mexico World Championship, a gold medal at the 2018 African Championship.

Other achievements are a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, a silver medal at the 2011 World championship.

Alleged Nigerian gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games in 1974 goes blind

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that a former Nigerian boxer, Stephen Ugboo, has urged people to come to his rescue as he begs for alms to survive.

Ugboo, who has gone blind, claimed he is a National Sports Festival (NSF) gold medalist who also won a gold medal at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch, New Zealand.

In a video that was shared on Facebook by Igbere TV - IGTV, the veteran boxer could be seen wearing his medals and pleading for help.

He has appealed to the Nigerian government to give him a walking stick that is given to visually impaired people.

However, a quick check by Legit.ng confirmed that Eddie Ndukwu (featherweight) and Obisia Nwankpa (light-welterweight) were Nigeria’s only gold medalists at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng also reported that it was an emotional moment for Chioma Ajunwa, Nigeria's first Olympic gold medalist, as she was gifted a three-bedroom flat by the Lagos state government after 25 years of her heroic act in Atlanta.

In an emotional video that was shared on Instagram by @lindaikejiblogofficial, Ajunwa who made history as an athlete at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, jumped up in excitement when the announcement was made by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

She was promised a house, and after 25 years, the promise has been fulfilled. The apartment she was gifted is situated at the Babatunde Raji Fashola Housing Estate in Ikoyi area of Lagos.
