Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Jerome Boateng on a free transfer at the end of this season.

The two-time Champions League winner will be out of contract with German League champions Bayern Munich this summer.

With less than six months to the expiration of his deal with the Bundesliga outfit, he is free to negotiate a move with other clubs on pre-contract terms.

Though the Blues already have veterans like Thiago Silva, the arrival of Thomas Tuchel might cause a slight change in the squad set up.

The 47-year-old played against Boateng a few times while in charge of Borussia Dortmund and he knows the quality the defender will bring to his team.

Football news platform 90min quoting Bild via Sportskeeda earlier reported that the London club was monitoring the player.

And now Spanish outlet Todofijaches claims Chelsea have shown a little more seriousness by reaching an agreement with the player through his agent.

The publication further stated that Tuchel's first signing when the transfer window opens later this summer.

However, the defender has struggled with injuries as he's got older, but his weekly wage packet would not come cheap despite signing him for free.

Chelsea are not alien to doing business with Bundesliga clubs having already raided the league last summer for Kai Havertz and Timo Werner in deals worth a combined £120 million.

But the players are yet to find their feet in the Premier League owing to illness, injury, and poor form at Stamford Bridge.

Legit.ng earlier reported that a former professional footballer who is currently working as a pundit Graeme Souness has made it clear that Timo Werner was the major reason that got Frank Lampard sacked at Chelsea.

Last season, Frank Lampard replaced Sarri as Chelsea's coach and helped the Blues to finish among the top four teams on the final Premier League table.

The former England international signed Timo Werner and other players before the start of the ongoing Premier League term, but the Blues were unable to get a good result.
