Good news as Nigerian star who plays for top European club undergo successful groin surgery, begins recovery

- It is left to be seen when the winger will return to action having already a few of their games

Spanish League giants Villarreal can confirm that Nigerian forward Samuel Chukwueze has successfully undergone a groin injury in Germany.

The 21-year-old was said to have aggravated the discomfort during the Yellow Submarine’s 4-0 victory over Celta Vigo in a Spanish top-flight game on January 8.

He has however missed games against Tenerife, Granada, Huesca, Girona, Real Sociedad, and Levante and it is unsure when he will return to action.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles enterprising winger is not the only Villarreal star who was hit with an injury setback as Ruben Pena also picked up a knock during the Copa Del Rey triumph over Levante. The La Liga club said on their official website that:

"Samuel Chukwueze, who has been out injured receiving treatment for discomfort in his groin, has undergone surgery this morning [Thursday] by Doctor Ulrike Muschaweck in Munich, hoping to definitively relieve him of the said pain,”

The club also added:

“Ruben Pena suffered muscle damage to his left hamstring in yesterday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final against Levante. Both footballers’ recovery time will depend on how they progress.”

The Nigerian sensation has scored twice and created two other assists in 21 appearances for his club in all competitions this campaign.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy could return to the squad when Leicester City take on Wolves in a Premier League clash at the weekend.

Ndidi was subbed off during the Foxes draw with Everton and has missed two league matches in the process.

On the other hand, Vardy has recovered from a hernia operation and has been sidelined for the last three fixtures.
